Dear reader, it is a fact universally acknowledged that writing an article even about yourself requires inspiration to get started and, failing that, adaptation of a classic opening.

Mike married Cal in 2001, and they now live together in Norton-on-Derwent, with their dog and cat!

He studied his Degree in Politics and Economics at Goldsmiths College, University of London. He is a Malton Town Councillor, a Trustee of Ryedale Citizens Advice Bureau and Secretary of Next Steps Mental Health Resource Centre.

Mike serves as a deacon at Malton Baptist Church and has worked in the National Health Service. More recently he worked doing Legal Aid casework before he became the Manager of York and District Citizens Advice Bureau.

Mike is the Director of York and District Mind and has been since spring 2008. He is passionate about making things better for the community. He is also President of North Yorkshire and York Credit Union believing that poverty and accessible finance are important issues to improve the quality of life for everyone.

He is chair of Lutton's Community Primary School governors as he is a strong supporter of education. Mike is also Chairman of Thirsk and Malton Liberal Democrats, which he does because he wants to help get a better deal for local residents than they are getting at the moment.

Mike enjoys 1980's music and nights out dancing, and he is interested in art and crafts.
